enina is the Portuguese word for little girl.
My Meninas were the result of a game, in which I tried to become less formal with my figures and decided to let go my inner child and start playing. Instead of allowing my inner adult to always strive for perfection and accurateness in my figures, that day, when my first Menina was born, I finally let go and set my little girl free, for real. I made these Meninas in 2011. They are all made of stoneware (fired at 1200 C) and I have painted them using engobes, acrylic, and/wood stains. They are all more or less 15 cm. tall. They are my little girls, and that is why each one has her own name. The Meninas I are all unique pieces. I sold them all, but I kept Petra, as a reminder of my first creative-child-flight. All but Josefina live in Germany. Josefina is moving to Italy next month.
